The Headland Caravan Park, Cornwall

The Headland Caravan Park is situated on the edge of Tintagel, which attracts large numbers of visitors due to its close proximity to King Arthur’s Castle, only a 20-minute walk away.

The castle ruins, fabled to be associated with King Arthur and his knights, is well worth a visit and had the benefit for us of being dog-friendly, as is the site itself.

On arriving at the campsite, we received the warmest of welcomes with the owner driving ahead of us to show us the pitches available to take our 8.5-metre-long motorhome. The pitch was spacious enough at 10 by 10 metres, but didn’t leave a huge amount of space between us and our neighbours. The pitches are all on grass, which is fine in dry weather, but did lead to a slight wheelspin when we were departing on a wet morning.

The website states that the site is under new ownership and one suspects there has been a period of little investment, which shows particularly in the toilet and shower block. The showers go off every few seconds and have no temperature control, but hot water was plentiful and the shower block is clean. The service point is minimal and one thing to note is that the tap isn’t the screw-in type and requires an older kind with a rubber top that is tightened with a screw.
