    Running her fingers along the dolphin ornaments in her grandmother’s house, my daughter Cara’s eyes lit up.

    ‘Mummy, how cool it would be to swim with dolphins,’ Cara said.

    My mum Karen’s house was full of dolphin and mermaid-related memorabilia and while my other kids, Jade and Kane admired them, Cara, then seven, always pretended to be a dolphin or mermaid whenever she was in water.
