30 YEARS AGO - FEBRUARY 1992

AN all-petrol comparo that pitted the two-door Disco against a SWB Pajero and a two-door Ford Maverick was this issue’s big vehicle test. The Maverick (aka, a rebadged Nissan Patrol) was slightly ahead of the others if you wanted a reliable, tough, go-anywhere 4WD, while the Disco was deemed ‘king’ if you could bear the seven grand extra you had to pay for it. Mind you, picking up a new Disco for 42 grand back then, seems pretty cheap compared to what you pay today!

Then there was a plethora of destination stories that took you from the Malaysian jungle to Victoria’s south-west, the northern realms of Kosciuszko National Park and to the ‘Lost City’ in the Northern Territory.
