THIS issue of the mag was memorable because, for starters, it was the biggest issue ever, with 148 pages packed full of adventure, vehicles and equipment.

Moonie was wrapping up his story on discovering Chugga Kurri, considered by him still, to be one of the best remote cross-country trips he has ever done; it featured as a Ch9 TV documentary before the plethora of 4WD TV shows of today.

Other travel destinations in this issue of the mag included the Black Snake Range in western Victoria and Moreton Island in Queensland, still a perennial favourite.

Our big equipment guide looked at camping gear with swags and camper trailers dominated with Australian-made gear and nary a Chinese-made trailer or swag even mentioned. What a change we’ve seen – and not all for the better!
