Brian’s pristine collection of Innocenti Lambrettas

And so, another trip over t’ hills was planned to get very close to the breathtakingly beautiful machines that belong to Brian Clough; machines that I can only describe after seeing them up close, as too good – in fact to be honest, so good the only words I could find to fit what I’m trying to say would be: “Über perfect!”

THE LIFE OF BRIAN

Brian Clough, now a sprightly 72 years young, was born in Wardle, a Lancashire mill town, in 1949. He still lives in the area and is a proud, born and bred ‘Wardleite’, or whatever that particular Lancastrian clan call themselves.

He can remember seeing scooters being ridden around his local area while he was leaning on a lamp post on the corner of his street, and was particularly drawn to the Lambrettas he saw, buying his first one at the age of 16.

His first machine from the Innocenti brand was a Mk3 LD, which he purchased from a local motorcycle dealership for £17.50, plus he shelled out an extra 30 ‘bob’ for new piston rings fitting. It was hand-painted red and black with a leather bench seat.

Brian loved riding his Lambretta and over the course of the next 18 months managed to clock up an amazing 8000 miles without ever leaving the Rochdale area.
