1 COULD A BIENNIAL WORLD CUP HAPPEN?

On the face of it, there is far too much resolute opposition for the concept to become a reality. After all, the proposal to switch from a four to a two-year cycle has already been met with widespread resistance from domestic leagues, confederations, players, clubs and supporter groups. That said, FIFA president Gianni Infantino is clearly very keen on a revolutionary new calendar and may calculate that he can drum up enough supporting voices in Africa, Asia, Central America and Oceania. Some sort of last-gasp fudge may yet be on the cards.
