Shot as she fled

She was just 15, but Hadiya Pendleton had the world at her feet.

Not only was she a bright teen, consistently earning high marks for her schoolwork, she was also a talented baton twirler.

In fact, Hadiya was so gifted she’d been part of a marching band that performed at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration in January 2013.

A week after Obama’s festivities in Washington, Hadiya was back in her home town of Chicago, focusing on her studies.
