Heartthrob with a dark side?

In 2011, when the winner of Best Worldwide Act was announced at the MTV European Music awards, UK viewers were shocked.

They’d expected pop princess Britney Spears to take the title.

Instead, South Korean boy band Bigbang won the award, with a sensational 58 million votes.

Korean pop music, known as K-pop, was on the rise – with catchy melodies and slick choreography, fans were addicted.

Songs like Gangnam Style by Psy followed in 2012, breaking into the UK mainstream.
