MYLES KENNEDY

02 ACADEMY, BRISTOL

f Dave Grohl hung up his guitar tomorrow, Myles Kennedy would gain the title of ‘Nicest from and, more surprisingly, the title track from Slash’s 2014 album both to a great response. That said, Myles himself has never been the most imposing of figures, and it’s even more evident tonight than usual. When he has his main band or Slash and the Conspirators around him, there’s enough going on elsewhere to balance out the unassuming shape he often cuts, but when the focus is solely on him, it’s painfully obvious at how big the stage looks around him. It’s not enough to call the gig a bust – his music was never going to be anything less than spot on – but it’s certainly not the overwhelming triumph it could have been.
