COMMON THREAD

I’m not typically someone you’d find in Vogue. As a former stock-mustering pilot, shearer’s cook, farmer and for the past 20 years, member of parliament, I can safely say that my style choices have been on the more practical side. That doesn’t mean I’m indifferent towards fashion. As a woman, I am proud that 77 per cent of the 489,000 people employed by the industry are women.

As the Federal Minister for the Environment, I am interested to see how fashion and its immense industry is shifting towards sustainable practices and most importantly, how those practices fit within the wider global push to reduce waste and our carbon footprint.

But, it is the industry’s capacity to set trends thatthat sums it up best:
