Team AG’s gardening hits and misses

IT has been a strange year for growers and gardeners up and down the country and our experiences seem to have tallied with those of many of our readers.

John Negus’s postbag has been bulging with tales of troubled tomatoes and we had woes of our own.

The cold start to the summer meant the toms suffered and seemed to take an age to get going.

Bizarrely, the ones growing outside fared better and ripened quicker than those in the greenhouse, but they still remained watery and tasteless thanks, no doubt, to the poor summer weather.
