‘When I looked at myself… …I didn’t like what I saw ’

Sean Canfield was in Grade 7 when he tried out for the wrestling team. At the first practice the coach asked the boys to line up – and for Canfield, everything changed. “He did the caliper test,” says Orlando-based Canfield, now 24. “They grab your skin to see how much fat you have.” Before that moment, “I had always thought of myself as physically fit and athletic,” he says. “I left there not quite feeling so much like that.”

The experience would hurtle Canfield into a life-threatening battle with anorexia – and ultimately on to a journey of recovery. He’s not alone. The COVID-19 pandemic
