One tradition of the Hilo Trollers is the expectation that the winner of the Fisherman of the Year Award will serve as club president the following year. The first two captains in line for the honor had legitimate and understandable reasons to pass on the honor and duty. Capt. Matt Castro of the TAKO EYE, who was third in line, graciously agreed to serve in 2022. He is working with this year’s board of directors to recruit next year’s board, and I expect there will be some continuity. The current and previous year’s Hilo Trollers’ boards have served very effectively, so we should all recognize them and thank them for their voluntary service.

The board is generally confirmed at the January annual meeting or soon after. I will report on the makeup of the 2022 board of directors as soon as it is official. The current board has begun to organize the distribution of
