From the notebook of a sportswriter who believes the Steelers “have many problems and they are great”:

• One of the greatest quotes from a coach whose wisdom would be useful today.

• It actually was said about running back Sid Thornton but has lasted the test of time and can describe just about anything that’s gone sour.

• It’s a great time to reprise that Chuck Noll pearl since so many of us are thinking about 1989. Yep, that’s when the Steelers lost their first two games by a composite of 92-10. The second game was a 41-10 loss to the Bengals in Cincinnati.

• OK, so, yes, it’s completely understandable to bring up 1989. That score, the same as Sunday’s, rings the bell. But
