Smith’s history shows desire to be physical

Arthur Smith, perhaps like every coach who’s interviewed for every offensive coordinator position, says he wants to build around the strengths of said offense.

A Sometimes that happens. And it helps that the Steelers have identified their strengths and hired a coordinator who has a history of playing to those particular strengths.

In other words, Smith appears to be a perfect fit.

Smith was the offensive coordinator for the high-flying Tennessee Titans from 2019-20. He used Derrick Henry to batter his way to 1,540 and then 2,027 rushing yards, while a journeyman QB to that point in his career, Ryan Tannehill, compiled passer ratings of 117.5 and then 106.5.

Tannehill led the NFL in passer rating, yards per attempt, and yards per completion in 2019 as the Titans made their way to the AFC Championship Game in
