My laptop is two years old, so can Currys refuse help?

LEAD CASE

I bought a £999 HP PC from Currys in November 2019, but it developed faults within the year, making it unusable. Because we were in lockdown and I wasn’t aware that Currys was accepting returns, I arranged for it to go back to HP twice. But the company couldn’t fix the problems. Although HP has issued a case number showing the fault is inherent and unrepairable, Currys is refusing to help, saying the one-year warranty has expired. Can you help untangle this?
