he 105E Anglia has a long and distinguished history of being impressively rapid. Back in the early 1960s, speed record pioneer Tony Brookes took a 105E — equipped with Ford’s racy £13 Performance Kit — to Montlhéry, juiced the tank, put his foot down, and didn’t stop until he’d achieved six world records, driving 20,000 km over seven days and nights at an average speed of 83.47 mph. The robust little Anglebox barely batted a chromed eyelid. 1962’s 123E Anglia Super stuffed in yet more swept volume and horsepower for superior swiftness in family duties, while 105Es were adopted by the police for all manner of speedy pursuits.
