his build was born from a simple idea. “My dad Brian and I just thought it would be cool to build a Lotus Capri,” explains Steve Hart. “Dad’s enthusiasm drove me to finish the car, although he sadly died before it was completed.” The example Steve started with had sat rotting for 30 years. “I’d loved my Classic Capri 1500, it’s a 1962 car first registered Jan 1, 1963 but it was badly bent after being crashed through a wall — back then it had a race-tuned 1500GT engine. Around 2016 I saw an advert for a balanced and blueprinted early Lotus twin-cam export engine originally built new for club racing, only trouble being it was in Amsterdam.
