LAST week, Athena managed to make her way to Tate Britain for the exhibition ‘Hogarth and Europe’. It was uplifting to be back in a busy gallery with people scrutinising pictures once more. Delightful, too, to see a large-scale show at Tate that addresses a British artist; ). Gathered in such strength, the power and immediacy of Hogarth’s art shines out. It’s fascinating as well to see it juxtaposed to the work of his European contemporaries, French, Dutch and Italian. Athena would encourage her readers to go and see it.
