Fish in focus

was interested to read David Tipling’s advice that ‘It is pointless to use autofocus’ for photographing leaping salmon and that he pre-focuses. I found it impossible to predict exactly where the next fish would appear out of the water; I relied on getting a fairly small autofocus area onto any fish that showed itself (wide area autofocus was too distracted by the moving water) and then hoping it would remain airborne
