A bacteria could lead to the suppression of pest mosquitoes across the globe after it successfully sterilised up to 80 per cent of male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes during trials in northern Queensland.

Responsible for spreading dengue, yellow fever and Zika, Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are found on every continent except Antarctica.
