Christchurch City River Fishing

There are surprisingly large trout in the rivers of Christchurch. If you’re just learning to fish and want to get out every chance that you can, these challenging spring creeks are right on our doorstep. I learnt to fly-fish stalking these difficult local trout, and having now fished all over NZ, I can tell you that if you can catch these fish, you can catch trout anywhere!

Spring is a great season to fish these rivers, as the trout are hungry after breeding and easier to catch. Shoals of whitebait, which are juvenile galaxids, are swimming up our rivers
