My husband and I were delighted to read your very pertinent editorial (October 2021) on the roll-out of the Pfizer vaccination.

In January 2021, we had recently retired and all our travel plans had been cancelled. We contacted the Ministry of Health and our own Southern DHB, to offer our volunteering assistance in starting the vaccination clinics. We were told nothing was yet being planned. Amazing, with so many months to have planned this.

We called these offices on a regular basis each month and in March were told plans were being made, however no volunteers would be accepted. Instead we could apply to the DHB and take multiple courses to become employees for
