Our heritage

WE NOW know that each province of South Africa is responsible for the national and provincial heritage sites found there. Each province has a provincial heritage resource agency that must coordinate with the national, provincial and local authorities to identify, preserve and manage our national heritage resources for future generations.

Last time we looked at a few of the notable and diverse sites of five provinces; now let’s look at those of the remaining four. There are hundreds of sites in each province, so we can only highlight a few.

WESTERN CAPE

Heritage Western Cape was created in 2003 and is responsible for this province’s heritage, which includes the landscape, artefacts, buildings and other structures.
