BEAUTY OF THE BUSH: HOW TO CAPTURE AUSTRALIAN TREES AND FORESTS
One of the most challenging subjects, even for seasoned photographers, are trees and forests. They can be chaotic, and it can be difficult to compose a scene where the focal point is often hard to locate.
However, with that challenge comes the satisfaction of being outdoors in the natural environment, and there really is nothing better than spending time in some of Australia’s forests while you do it.
One thing that makes our native bush special is our eucalyptus trees. There are approximately 600 - 700 species that mainly grown in Australia including the towering Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus regnans), Stringybark (Eucalyptus obliqua) and Snow Gum (Eucalyptus pauciflora).
In this feature, I’ll share a few tips for capturing our unique bush environment, including eucalypts. Let’s get started.
1 SLOW DOWN AND SHOOT LOCAL
If the last 18 months have taught us anything, it’s the importance of slowing down and embracing the experiences we can have closer to home. Over time my own photography has evolved and being restricted to local areas has challenged my mindset and the type of images I’ve captured.
