Back

Using Gooseberry and the smaller needles cast on 135 (147) 157 (169) 181 (191) sts and work ribbing for 4 cm. Switch to larger needles. Then work stockinette st for 2 rows. Begin the colourwork pattern on row 1 of chart I. The starting point for each size is marked with an arrow. Keep repeating the 18 st pattern as needed. Work rows 2–46 of the chart, then work stockinette st for 2 rows using Gooseberry.

Continue on row 47 of chart I (see arrows for starting point). Keep repeating the 24 st pattern as needed. Work rows 48–66 of the chart.

Note: When the piece measures 19 (19) 20 (20) 21 (21) cm, decrease 1 st at both ends: work 1 seam st, k2tog following colourwork pattern, work to last 3 sts, skp following colourwork pattern (= slip 1 knitwise, k1, pass slipped st over), work 1 seam st.

Repeat the decreases every 5 cm 4 more times = 125 (137) 147 (159) 171 (181) sts.

After row 66, work 2 rows in stockinette st using Gooseberry. Resume the colourwork pattern on row 67 of chart II. The midpoint of the piece is marked with an arrow, use that to determine the starting point. Keep repeating the 18 st pattern as needed. Work rows 68–98 of the chart, then work 2 rows in stockinette st using Gooseberry.

Resume the colourwork pattern on row 99 of chart II. The midpoint of the piece is marked with an arrow, use that to determine the starting point. Keep repeating the 22 st pattern as needed. Work rows 100–140 of the chart, then work 2 rows in stockinette st using Gooseberry.

Note: When the piece measures 53 (54) 55 (56) 57 (58) cm, on every other row bind off for armholes at both ends: 1x 7 (9) 11 (12) 14 (15) sts, 0 (0) 0 (0) 1 (1)x 4 sts, 1 (1) 1 (1) 0 (0) x 3 sts and 1 (1) 2 (2) 2 (2) x 2 sts = 101 (109) 111 (121) 127 (135) sts.

Begin raglan decreases: on a RS row work 1 seam st, k2tog following pattern, work to last 3 sts, skp following pattern, work 1 seam st. Repeat the decreases every other row 24 (22) 23 (22) 23 (23) more times. On every other row decrease 0 (3) 3 (5) 6 (8)x 2 sts at both ends: work 1 seam st, k3tog following colourwork pattern, work to last 4 sts, sk2p following pattern (= slip 1 knitwise, k2tog, pass slipped st over), work 1 seam st.

After row 140, work 2 rows in stockinette st using Gooseberry. Resume the colourwork pattern on row 1 of chart I. The midpoint of the piece is marked with an arrow, use that to determine the starting point. Keep repeating the 18 st pattern as needed. Work rows 2–46 of the chart, then work 2 rows in stockinette st using Gooseberry.

Resume the colourwork pattern on row 47 of chart I. The midpoint of the piece is marked with an arrow, use that to determine the starting point. Keep repeating the 24 st pattern as needed. Work rows 48–66 of the chart, then work 2 rows in stockinette st using Gooseberry.

If needed, continue on row 67 of chart II. The midpoint of the piece is marked with an arrow, use that to determine the starting point. Keep repeating the 18 st pattern as needed. Work rows 68–98 of the chart, then work 2 rows in stockinette st using Gooseberry.

Note: After completing the decreases, bind off the remaining 51 (51) 51 (55) 55 (55) sts.

Front

Work like back until there are 71 (77) 77 (85) 87 (93) sts on the needles when working the raglan decreases. On the next WS row, bind off the middle 41 (47) 47 (49) 49 (49) sts for the neckline. Work one side at a time. Keep working the raglan decreases as established, and at the same time on every other row bind off 1x 3 sts, 1x 2 sts and 3x 1 st at the neckline edge. Break yarn. Knit the other side in the same manner.

Left sleeve

Using Gooseberry and the smaller needles cast on 61 (63) 67 (69) 69 (71) sts and work ribbing for 7 cm. Switch to larger needles. Work stockinette st for 2 rows.

01 Chart I

Begin the colourwork pattern on the same row that on the back piece is 40 (41) 41 (43) 43 (44) cm below the armhole. The midpoint of the piece is marked with an arrow, use that to determine the starting point.

Work following the colourwork pattern as established on the back piece.
