THE 13TH SEOUL INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE FILM FESTIVAL: ‘DESIGNED FOR ALL’
The 13th Seoul International Architecture Film Festival (SIAFF) hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korean Institute of Architects was held from Sep. 8 is a documentary about the Bijlmemeer, a.k.a ‘Bims’, the location of Amsterdam’s most diverse ethnic group. It tells the story of the fight against racism and inequality in Amsterdam, known as one of the most progressive cities and yet blighted by social problems. Seven films were screened as part of the Masters & Masterpieces section, including , which observes the life and work of Alvar Aalto, and , which surveys the history and present condition of Prora, the longest building in the world. The Urbanscape section, which introduced works dealing with sustainable space, introduced seven films, including . Four films including , , were introduced in the Beyond section, dealing with social issues raised by the pandemic, and three films, including , were screened in the Special Section – Yongsan, Returned. Kim Dahye (programmer, SIAFF), who prepared this film festival, said, ‘We come to realise that we’re not the only ones facing various architectural issues―rather, it’s a global phenomenon’. It is hoped that the message behind this film festival, planned as a place to ‘imagine architecture and the society for all’, can be conveyed in reality.
