Q: I’m a newbie subscriber to HMM. Of course, I used to get the Hemmings “big book,” but that was some time ago.
I have been a proud owner of a 1969 Camaro convertible for 42 years. It’s a stock 250-cu.in. straight-six — not exactly a muscle car, but the way it handles (seat of the pants) compared to newer cars, it may as well be!
My long-term problem is starting the car after it sits for any length of time. If it sits for just a day or two, I pump it once or twice and it turns right over. If it sits for 7-10 days, I need to pump the gas 15 times or more before it starts. If it sits for more than a month, I need to pump the gas 70 times or so.
The choke/carburetor has been inspected numerous times over the years and it checks out fine.
