Facing the music

The BBC Music YouTube channel has a clip of Liam Gallagher performing Stand By Me in his set late last month at Reading Festival. It’s amazing. Soaked in the glow of a cathedral of lights and LED screens, the kids – and it is a very young-looking crowd – are exultant. Tens of thousands of them, cheering, singing and falling over each other, having it large like they haven’t in a year and half. It’s impossible to begrudge them the joy on their beaming, maskless faces.
