In 2017, when Liu Shanshan, then 32 years old, was asked to accompany an elderly family member to see the doctor, she had no idea that request would lead her into a new profession.

The senior patient came from a neighboring county to Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province, where Liu lived, to visit a larger hospital which boasts better medical resources than those in his hometown. He was initially accompanied by his daughter, but she was later called up by her company for an emergency so she had to leave Shenyang and entrust Liu to take care of her father.
