ICE COLD FACTS

Before Ice-T became rap’s Original Gangster, street cop Scotty Appleton in the 1991 Mario Van Peebles classic New Jack City, frontman of the heavy metal band Body Count or Detective Odafin Tutuola on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, he was Tracy Marrow from Newark, New Jersey.

Born in 1958 to Solomon and Alice Marrow, Ice-T endured a series of tragedies early on that would shape his life’s trajectory. When Ice-T was around 10 years old, his mother died of a heart attack and only a few short years later, his father suffered the same fate. Orphaned and not even in high school, he was eventually shipped to south Los Angeles to live with his aunt who had a son with a penchant for heavy metal music.
