Your little ones want to be with their parents and family all the time, it is imperative that they also expand their social environment from home, to include a playschool, perhaps. Children with working mothers either go to daycare or are cared for at home by relatives or nannies.
Therefore, given that the toddler has developed a strong bond with his mother, separating from her causes a major upheaval in his life. He will do everything in his power to fend off the separation, such as throwing tantrums, crying and kicking, wailing and so on, even as the mother tries to wean him away gradually, from her apron strings. This process of separation causes anxiety in the toddler, thus giving birth to the term, ‘separation anxiety’. Worried mothers, fear not! There are tried and tested ways in which separation anxiety can be tackled.
