Committed to the glorious Gouldian

IN AUGUST 2020, I wrote about an enterprising young Spanish fancier residing in Glasgow, Javier Pina Carrasco. Javier breeds Gouldian finches. Not satisfied with creating the Facebook page “Lady Gouldian Scotland”, with its 7,500 members, he has recently instigated the setting up of the British Gouldian Finch Club. I’ll declare an interest. I kept one pair of Gouldians about 15 years ago and I adored them but I was no use at getting them to breed! The cock bird’s dance on the perch made me laugh. They are stunning little birds. If I didn’t keep old and rare variety canaries… who knows?
