WELCOME TO STUDIO SOCIETY
The thought of group exercise fills me with dread. Like, really really. And the limited experience I’ve had with gym classes hasn’t done anything to change my mind. If anything, they’ve only served to reinforce the negative idea I have in my head – that I’ll be flailing around like a deflating lilo in a sea of feminine, “beach body ready” models, dressed head to toe in Lululemon. So when I was asked to come down and try a “multi-sensory fitness experience” in leafy West Hampstead, I have no idea why I said yes.
Well, I do. It was because I was intrigued by its inclusive ethos, and wanted to see what this looked like in practice. The passion project of friends Beverlee Brinkworth, a former lifeguard, and personal trainer Rosanna Tucker, Studio Society is all about doing things differently. And from the moment I walk through the door, it feels different.
After getting my sweat on thought I would write – Beverlee, Rosanna and I sit down for a coffee to find out how Studio Society came to be, and how they’re adapting to this new world of ours.
