SPORTS SPECIALS CHASE HEATS UP IN WALES
Three drivers are separated by just two points at the top of the Sports Specials standings after a pair of exciting races atAnglesey.
Anton Landon converted pole position into the lead in his Cyana in race one but he was gradually hunted down on the damp track by Eclipse driver Paul Boyd, who closed to within 0.7 seconds.
Boyd led initially in the second encounter but reigning champion Andy Hiley charged through from row three in his Chronos. He displaced Landon from second at Church on lap eight and Boyd at the Corkscrew two laps later to take the win and close to within a couple of points of Landon and go level with Class B protagonist Warren Vessey.
There was a typically tight bunch at the front of the opening Locost contest, with Simon Walker-Hansell doing well to hold on. He was penalised five seconds for a track limits infringement, however, which added greater significance to the drive up the order from championship leader Martin West, who started on row five. He took second on the road at the Banking on the penultimate lap, so was classified first ahead of Geoff Peek.
West had even more to do in the second race, but he latched himself on to a four-car group disputing second position by lap eight. By this time, however,Andrew Tait had edged out enough of a gap over the rest to be safe, with Karl Ruijsenaars – who towed past Craig Land near the end – the best of the next
