From 128-player support on PS5 to advanced weather effects that affect the way you fight, there are some big introductions in the latest game in the long-running series. But one of the freshest and most alluring is something it borrows from the past: Battlefield Portal. Standing alongside the standard All-Out Warfare and soon-to-be-detailed Hazard Zone, this third pillar celebrates Battlefield’s nearly 20-year-strong legacy by bringing together classic maps, modes, vehicles, weapons, and gadgets.
At launch, you’ll be able to blend Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3 with Battlefield 2042. More than extra material, each element can be played with, allowing you to make custom game modes using a powerful yet easy-to-use logic builder. From tweaking stats and win conditions to toggling available weapons and soldiers, how deep you want to get is very much up to you. As you get more skilled, the settings allow you pull together building blocks essentially to script code visually, which can lead to some extremely creative modes.
