PVW: Is writing your full-time job, or just something you do for fun and a bit of extra cash on the side?
Bryan McCarthy: I went to college, err university, for journalism and had all intentions of joining the ranks of the local newspaper until it was made clear to me that in order to succeed in news media (the daily kind), you have to be married to the career. So while I have a passion for writing, the sort of life that was staring me the face wasn’t as enticing as the college creative writing classes made it out to be. I tell people I retired from journalism (love it – Ed).
PVW: When and how did you get into writing in the first place?
I’ve always had the itch to tell stories. I enrolled in a few creative writing classes in high school and from there I followed the curriculum of a ‘communications’ major. Granted, I don’t currently utilise that degree in the way it was meant, but I talk to people every day and therefore, it hasn’t gone to waste. Telling myself that
