SHELL DISHES AND TRAY

You will need:

Large sheet of paper – lining wallpaper is useful

Something round with a 35cm diameter – protractor if you have one this size

Pencil, craft knife, cutting mat (optional)

Clay for making moulds

Clay of choice for making dish and shells, preferably white

Rolling pin, roller guides (3-5mm), plastic sheet

Iron oxide

Glazes of choice to fit clay type

Working on a cutting mat, draw a 35cm-diameter circle on a large sheet of paper, then mark the centre point with a pinhole or pencil

Divide the circumference of the circle into 5 x 72° sections (a large protractor makes this very simple), and mark each position with a pencil line.

Draw a line from the centre point to each of the marks to create the divisions.

Now mark a point 2.5cm in from the outer edge of each line, then using a smaller protractor or similar, draw a curved outline between each of the points to create a scalloped rim.

Carefully cut the shape out.
