The quality of Princess’ build was never in doubt, but her decorating skills weren’t enough to see her stay. But Keith told her, “I don’t think there has been a potter on the programme who has invested so much time and passion in what you do!”

When did you start pottery?

I started when I was 19. I had just quit my job and was looking for something new to challenge me and possibly revive my spark of creativity, which I had lost when I became a chef. The idea of trying something I had never done motivated me to have a go; it seemed like such a beautiful craft.

Which piece of your work stands out, and are any memories attached to it?

The piece of pottery I felt truly proud of was my breakfast set. I had an idea of what I wanted to achieve and sharpened my focus into creating the set I had in mind. The set represents a shift in how I viewed myself as a potter and my skills, and taught me discipline with both myself and the craft.

What is the one piece of pottery you would like to make now after spending some time with the professional potters?

I really enjoyed sculpting and will definitely be doing more of that.

Where do you do your pottery?

I pot at a community studio and work there as a technician, and am allowed studio space and clay.

Do you prefer to hand-build or throw – or both?

I am hands down a thrower! I naturally gravitated to the wheel as it held the biggest challenge for me. There are so many elements to take into consideration when you’re on the wheel that I enjoyed learning and getting better at.
