Burden of truth

A young American woman studying in France is convicted of murdering her girlfriend and sentenced to nine years in prison, despite protesting her innocence. It’s a juicy premise, ripe for a dramatic telling with the potential for a thrilling denouement.

But this film takes the unusual tack of stepping into the life of someone who would normally be a supporting character in such a drama – the girl’s father. If you can get over your outrage that a woman’s story of mistrust, exploitation and trial by media has been hijacked for a man’s point of view, makes for quite gripping viewing.
