Browsing the newspaper dating ads one evening in January 2003, one caught my eye.

He sounds nice, I thought to myself.

Dave described himself as having brown hair and a sarcastic sense of humour.

I’d been single for a year after a 15-year relationship, and was a single mum to two girls, aged 5 and 6.

So, I duly responded.

My name’s Vickie, I spotted your ad...I wrote.

Dave replied, and I found him easy to talk to, shared the humour he’d described in his ad.
