ESSENTIAL GUIDE Getting Creative with Curves

“Discover various ways of creating circles and curves for improv arrangements and to use in designs that can be customised to your tastes.”
– Lin Clements

CREATIVE CIRCLES AND CURVES

This month, we are going to look at some techniques that allow us to be more creative in our work, helping us to achieve a freer, more improvisational look. In particular, we will focus on circles and curves, looking at how appliqué and minimal machine piecing can be used to create work that is unique to us as individuals. There is no doubt that circles and curves create a very different look to the geometric, linear blocks we normally use. I’ve chosen designs that are easy to achieve but can be customised to suit your tastes if you wish. In fact, the whole point of this article is to encourage you to have a go and interpret the ideas your way and with the fabrics you love. Next month we will add to this repertoire by learning how to sew curved, undulating seams.
