RUNNING ON EMPTY

Getting changed into my sports kit, I warmed up for my P.E. lesson.
‘Today, we are starting a new term of athletics,’ my teacher announced to the class.
I was in year nine and I had never tried running before, so I was extremely surprised when I came first in the 800m race.
‘Well done, Lisa!’ my classmates cheered.
Achievement flooded through me, and I felt good about myself. As an introverted person, being recognised for something was a new experience that I relished.
After winning the race, I started going running with my dad Roy, then 52.
And I joined my local athletics club, Doncaster AC.
I had finally found a hobby that I loved, and that I was genuinely good at.
