TRIPPING THE LIGHT FANTASTIC

The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 cruiser isn’t a parts-bin special or a rehash of an out-of-date model, but an all-new motorcycle from front to back.

The engine is a bit of a revelation and a chunky bit of kit for a 350 single. It manages to look both modern and classic, is heavy on the finning and has sturdy-looking crinkle black paint on the outside. Inside the engine the Meteor combines oil cooling with air-cooling, with an internal cooling oil reservoir to keep things running comfortably. The lack of a radiator stuffed in front of the engine helps the uncluttered lines and is a remarkable achievement from the RE designers.
