MANY fanciers and readers of this publication will be aware of the Kendall family name being linked to the Fife canary. Some, however, may also know that our father Kevin and late uncle Alan were once top British fanciers, predominantly across the Midlands area (see January 27 issue). That being the case, British birds have always been around my sister and me as we began our birdkeeping hobby.

For a few years now we’ve been breeding common redpolls. We’ve found them quite a delight and a real change: different to the Fifes, yet in so many ways similar, with their inquisitive nature and freeness in movement.
