Grange Farm, Isle of Wight
Atop the cliff on the Isle of Wight’s southwest coast, there’s plenty of fresh sea air here! Grange Farm’s site entrance is clearly signed and reception is friendly. Unlike some coastal sites the drive to pitches is flat and straightforward. You are free to choose your own, some being right on the front with nothing between you and France bar water.
Grass pitches are reasonably sized, but I chose a pitch a little further back with hardstanding, which are a little smaller. There are some low earth banks that separate the fields, but they will not provide much shelter from off-shore breezes.
As the views are uninterrupted along the clifftop and out to sea, the sunsets are spectacular – as is the starscape because there is very little light pollution.
Facilities are mixed. The main building is larger and a laundry area is included. There are other facility areas in smaller cabins. WiFi is available, but I did not use it. The grey water and WC disposal points are not up to modern standards.
There is a well-stocked shop selling a good range of food and last-minute or forgotten equipment. Even towards the season’s end, a fish and chip van calls twice a week and a pizza van on Wednesdays. These seemed popular.
There is a children’s play area and also a field with alpacas, sheep, pigs and goats, which are entertaining.
