You Say Tomato

The venerable tomato is the most popular garden vegetable grown in the USA. From the tiniest cherry to the largest beefsteak, there are thousands of tomato varieties in hues ranging from gold and green to burgundy and plum. After weeks of careful tending, we cannot wait for the first of our pampered fruits to mature. When frost threatens, we try to extend the season, hurrying out to pick as many green tomatoes as we can carry into the house to ripen on a sunny windowsill.
