All over the country there are enthusiasts that preserve threshing drums, trussers and the like, for demonstration purposes at rallies and events, often cutting a small amount of wheat with a binder for the purpose.
In the past, when wheat varieties were different to those grown today, the straw was used to thatch buildings, but the characteristics of modern varieties mean that the by-product is not suitable for thatching.
