THE ART OF SHOWMANSHIP
Sure, you can just show up, park up, and piss off — and that’s fine, if that’s your sort of thing. But if you want to be in to win or to simply make a good impression, there’s much more to it than just that. Entering a show is one of those areas of life where the old saying of a little effort goes a long way couldn’t be more accurate.
While the info on the following pages is focused more on indoor events, the same advice applies to outdoor shows also. We’ve probably been a bit more opinionated than we would usually be in this type of article, but there’s much that can be learnt, most of which is not all that hard.
Display Design
Every show around the country is different, even the likes of the National Hot Rod Show, which is run annually by different host clubs, but the first step with any event is to book your space. The key part of this is knowing how much room you have to play with, as you’ll need to design your display with this in mind. It’s not always a matter of bigger is better, but if you’re trying to squeeze a 5.9-metre-long Lincoln into a six-metre-long display spot, you need to think these things through well in advance.
