LIFE ON THE FARM
We are a nation of meat eaters and it’s big business, with the Cattle Council of Australia reporting in 2020 that domestic consumers ate around 25kg of beef per person in 2018-19. But our appetite for meat is raising questions around the impact of a diet based on it. We are struggling to find a system that can keep up with demand while mitigating animal welfare impacts, localised environmental consequences and the system’s contribution to climate change.
